This raised platform or "seiro" is commonly used for serving cold buckwheat soba noodles. A small cup or "choko" accompanies this plate to dip the noodle into sauce or "tsuyu". This seiro can also be used for cold udon noodles. The slot on the side fits a "choko" smaller than 3.5" dia. Garnishes such as scallion, nori seaweed and wasabi can be placed on the square section or on a small square dish.
